What We Believe

Who We Are…
The Poughquag UMC was originally part of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was known as the Centenary Methodist Episcopal Church. The church met in the area and established a church building in 1839. As the church grew we added on an educational wing in the 60’s.
Who we are today is a vibrant, family-oriented church. We provide Sunday School, a Women’s Bible Study, Men’s Breakfast, Adult Sunday School, Disciple Bible Study, Youth Group for Teens, and summer VBS. We charter both Cub Scout Pack 77 and Boy Scout Troop 77.

What We Believe…
The Poughquag UMC upholds the articles of religions of the United Methodist Church which can be found here: http://www.crivoice.org/creed25.html
While we respect the religious traditions of all people who practice a form of faith, we are a Christian Church. We form our theological understanding on the Bible, tradition, experience and reason.
We have two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion.  We believe that all are invited to the family of God and practice infant baptism. We believe that Jesus Christ is really present in some mysterious way in the consecrated elements, and open Holy Communion to anyone who wishes to receive the grace of Christ present in this sacrament.
We believe in the sacred worth of all people and welcome anyone regardless of race, socio-economic status, age, sexual orientation, religion, etc.
We believe that God wants a connection with everyone and that God loves everybody.
If you have any questions about our beliefs, please feel free to contact Pastor Sung.
